CULTURE DAY 2015

Page history last edited by Ms. Bonastre 9 years, 2 months ago

Here are the poems for this year's edition of the English Oral Proficiency Contest.

YEAR 1

Little snowman

I built a little snowman. (make large circle with arms)

He had a carrot nose (point to nose)

Along came a bunny (hold up to bent fingers above your head)

And what do you suppose? (shrug)

That hungry little bunny, (touch belly)

Looking for his lunch, (finger under your eye)

Ate the snowman's nose. (pretend bunny is eating nose)

Nibble! Nibble! Crunch! (pretend to be eating a carrot)

YEAR 2

I'm a little snowman

I’m a little snowman, short and fat,

Here is my scarf, here is my hat.

When the sun is out, I cannot play,

I just slowly melt away.

I’m a little snowman, short and fat,

Here is my scarf, here is my hat

And a little broom, and a carrot nose

I stand tall when the cold wind blows.

YEAR 3

Rhino soup, by Richard Macwilliam (3r)

Rhino soup
Is a bit of a gloop –
If we want good karma
Let them roam the savannah!

Ladybird, by Richard Macwilliam (3r)

‘The ladybird is quite absurd!’
The ant said to the bee,
‘So many legs and a coat of red –
It doesn’t look like me!’

Giant spider, by Richard Macwilliam (3r)

A giant spider,
Six feet tall –
And here is me,
Very small.

Bee, by Richard Macwilliam (3r)

“NOOO!” said the bee,
Hitting a drop of rain –
It had to wait for sunshine
Before flying off again.

Wasps, by Richard Macwilliam (3r)

Wasps fly
In the sky,
I hope they stay there,
Very high.

YEAR 4

Water, by Richard Macwilliam (4t)

Puddles splash!
Waves crash!
Rivers run –
Water’s fun!

Cloud and sun, by Richard Macwilliam (4t)

Big dark cloud,
Hid the sun,
Wind came along
And made it run!

Out on a cold day, by Richard Macwilliam (4t)

Out on a cold day,
Out in the sun,
It doesn’t really matter
When you’re having fun!

Wet!, by Richard Macwilliam (4t)

Soaking wet,
Soggy clothes,
A funny feeling
In my nose –
Achoo!

YEAR 5

My pig won't let me watch TV, by Ken Nesbitt (5è)

My pig won't let me watch TV.
It's totally unfair.
He watches anything he wants
but doesn't ever share.

I never get to watch cartoons
or anything like that.
He's busy watching farming shows.
I should have got a cat.

I should have got a goldfish
or a guinea pig or goat.
Instead, I've got this pig
who's always hogging the remote.

YEAR 6

The Lion, by Roald Dahl (6è)

The lion just adores to eat
A lot of red and tender meat
And if you ask the lion what
Is much the tenderest of the lot,
He will not say a roast of lamb
Or curried beef or devilled ham
Or crispy pork or corned beef hash
Or sausages or mutton mash.
Then could it be a big plump hen?
He answers no. What is it, then?
Oh, lion dear, could I not make
You happy with a lovely steak?
Could I entice you from your lair
With rabbit pie or roasted hare?
The lion smiled and shook his head.
He came up very close and said,
‘The meat I am about to chew
Is neither steak nor chops.
IT’S YOU.’
